One way to make sure that you never show up empty handed at Christmas time, is to gift cookies. It is one of the easiest ways to hand over a bit of Christmas spirit. Think friends, neighbors, extended family; with these folks in mind, here are 5 Christmas cookies to gift this year.
My husband has a big family. Lots of extended family that all celebrate Christmas together at once. When we show up to these family Christmas events, we don’t always buy gifts for all of the Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. It doesn’t feel great to show up utterly empty handed. I always feel this weird, “we should have brought something” feeling as soon as we walk in the door. If I bring a pretty tin of cookies, that icky feeling disappears.
With my new lifestyle change since starting Noom, I am on the lookout for how I can make our Christmas cookies healthier this year. Healthier for me, means sugar free and low calorie.
How To Make Sugar Free Christmas Cookies
Cup for cup Swerve sweetener is the best sugar substitute for making cookies. It comes in all of the forms you need: Swerve brown sugar, Swerve granulated sugar, Swerve confectioners sugar. It bakes and measures just like real sugar (although I back off the measurements just slightly).
How To Make Skinny Low Calorie Christmas Cookies
There are a couple of tricks to making a healthier low calorie Christmas cookie. Firstly, sugar has a lot of calories. One cup of sugar boasts 773 calories. Swerve sugar replacement has 0 calories. Butter packs a big calorie punch too. A few substitutes for butter include: greek yogurt, black beans, applesauce, and pumpkin puree.
Cup for cup, flour and flavored protein powder have about the same number calories. My go to substitute for flour is Quest protein powder, a low carbohydrate protein powder that bakes well. Going forward, I will substitute half of the flour for protein powder. I use these methods in my Low Carb Chocolate Chunk Cookies and Low Carb Pumpkin Spice Snickerdoodles.
How To Make Low Carb Christmas Cookies
Before starting Noom I was an expert in low carb baking. All of my low carb cookie recipes still translate well to low calorie, but I will be making a few tweaks. To make low carb Christmas cookies, substitute all purpose flour with finely ground almond flour and Quest protein powder. Substitute sugar with Swerve Sugar Replacement.
There are so many ways to make Christmas cookies fit into your lifestyle. If your friends and family don’t follow a specific diet regimen, they will still love a big tin of Christmas cookies from you. I plan on making each of these 5 Christmas cookies to gift this year myself for gifting, no substitutions!
