My name is Amy. I am a hot mess Mom, ultra-foodie, farmer, introvert, pro-photographer, and most importantly: daydream believer. That's not all there is about me though!
I have lived and travelled all over the world for my entire life. Most recently I spent three years in the Middle East, eating all the things. Did you know that the food game is strong there? It is. It's amazing. I have also spent many years living in Italy, Iceland, and Venezuela (Hiiiii Arepas!!!).
Photography has been a passion of mine since I was a teenager and I love sharing that with you here on my blog. I've been blogging on various sites for the last 9 years, but I am most excited about Amy Cakes, and sharing the recipes that make me happiest.
I live on a historic Virginia Farm where I garden on a large scale and raise bees and chickens (for hugs and eggs, not meat). Producing fresh, organic food from our orchard, garden, berry patch, chickens, and bees is a top priority for our family. I love sharing this piece of my life with you as well!
My food profile: Any kind of Asian, Middle Eastern, and Latin food is my favorite. Lots of flavor. I really can't get down with any foods you can bring to a picnic: hot dogs, no. Potato salad, no. Pasta salad, no no no. Except if it has prosciutto and vinaigrette, then maybe yes.
I also love really fundamentally homemade food. Crusty bread, sauce, fresh vegetables and fruits, and homemade jam. If you love rustic farmhouse style cooking, like I do; take a look at my Farmhouse Recipes. Here you will find lots of from scratch ideas to fill your table. I try to make my recipes as healthy as possible, and never use sugar.
My hope is that you find what you are looking for here, and laugh a little along the way!
