HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN FILLABLE BABY FOOD POUCHES
My little guy is a very picky eater. I make a lot of great food here, and he pretty much refuses to eat any of it. Occasionally he will eat fruit like an apple or banana or a piece of toast…or 5 cookies. But a meal is tough to come by with him. Last year his doctor told us to start putting heavy whipping cream in his bottles to help him gain…and this has been a rough path we have been going down.
One thing we can always count on is that he will eat the baby food pouches you can buy at the store. I try to choose the ones with rice, quinoa, or oats because they have the most calories and he is such a little guy. He needs all the calories he can get and getting those calories becomes easier by making my own pouches with a baby food pouch maker.
The downside of the store-bought pouches (one downside), is that I was spending A TON of money on them (probably $40.00/week) and it felt like such a waste of money when I can make him things like kale and rice (his favorite pouch). Because of this extreme picky-ness, he just won’t eat those those foods whole.
P.S. I have more than one child and I know how to just stall until they get hungry enough and eat what I offer. He doesn’t work that way, he will refuse to eat for days and lose weight. Pouches are my only hope at this point. If you feel this way, and you get worried about your baby…I’m writing this all for you, momma, sneak those extra calories into the pouches, and stay strong.

A BABY FOOD POUCH MAKER IS SO EASY TO USE
This baby food pouch maker that I found on Amazon is so easy to use. I can’t believe how easy this solution is for me. Dreaming up food combinations that I know my sweet boy will love is fun, like sweet potato, cinnamon, maple syrup, and plant butter or the recipe I came up with for you at the bottom of this post: full fat coconut milk, tropical fruit, and chia.
It’s easy to blend it all up in my Magic Bullet and then press it into the pouches, close the lids, and store them in the refrigerator or freezer (leave a little extra room for expansion). And I can easily make enough for the week in about an hour.

TIPS FOR MAKING FILLABLE POUCHES WITH A FOOD POUCH MAKER
I’ve learned a couple of things while making my own fillable baby food pouches at home.
- Make sure there are no chunks. I once didn’t blend enough with the Magic Bullet, and pressing the food into the pouches became impossible. And then my baby refused to eat it because tiny chunks made it in.
- You may need to add more liquid depending on your Childs age. If you are just starting out making pouches and feeding your baby food…you may need to look for age-appropriate recipes or thin it out a lot.
- A few times, I have just blended fruit cocktail and that worked out great.
- Thaw out any frozen fruit.
- Add oats, rice, quinoa, chia, and other grains to your blends for more calories.
- These are great for older kids and adults too. I have an older child that loves Go-Go Squeeze pouches, now I make them at home and save money (great for lunchboxes). If you feel like you could use a supplement in your own diet, make something awesome for yourself that you can eat on the go, like chia pudding.
- These are great for car snacks, hiking snacks, beach snacks, and on trips!
AMY CAKES RECIPES THAT I MIGHT BLEND UP INTO BABY FOOD POUCHES:
- Coconut milk + Sugar-Free Strawberry Jam + Chia Seeds
- Kale, Cranberry, and Wild Rice Soup
- Leek and Lima Bean Soup
- Tomato-Based Vegetable Soup with Garbanzo Beans
- Gingerbread Granola + Almond Milk
- Crockpot Apple Butter + Brown Rice
